Decoupaged Tray

Glue the moldings to the sides of the tray.
In this project we have used
0803 and 0805.
You can find instructions on using the
moldings
here.

Once the glue has dried paint the tray
with an undercoat or acrylic
background colour.
When dry sand lightly. Then apply
your base colour or another coat
of background colour.
With a soft cloth wipe on a coat of
thinned Raw Umber

Using a clean cloth wipe off any
excess paint before it dries. Leave a
build up of paint in the indentations of
the moldings. This will add
to the aged appearance of the tray.

Cut out the images you wish to use.

Here we have used photocopied
wrapping paper. For a worn appearance
on the tears use a wet cotton bud to draw
a line where you wish to divide the images.
Let it soak in for a moment
and then rip along the damp edges.

Position your images until you are
happy with the layout. With a soft brush
apply a coat of sealer to both sides of
your images. This prevents the paper
from becoming transparent when you
glue them to the surface

Apply a coat of glue or Liquitex
to the back of the images and
place on the tray.

Using a damp sponge, or your fingers,
work from the centre of the imge to the
sides to remove air bubbles. When the
images have been placed apply another
coat of sealer to the top of the images
.

When the sealer has dried, spray the
tray with polyurethane varnish. Use at l
least three coats making sure the
varnish is completely dry before
applying the next coat. If the varnish is
NOT dry, it can create an 'onion peel' effect.
This will have to be sanded off before
applying more varnish and can be a
time consuming and difficult job.

The polyurethane varnish will
yellow slightly over time and will
add to the 'aged' look
