Pots of Colour

Some techniques for decorating terracotta pots

SPRAY PAINTED POT

Paint the pot in the colour of your choice for the base coat
Use packing or ordinary adhesive tape
(it doesn't pull the paint off like masking tape)
mark out the stripes on the pot.

Spray the pot with gold paint and when dry remove the tape.

For an added effect use structural paint to create your designs.

DRY PAINTED POT

This technique can be used on either a plain pot
or pot decorated with moldings.

Undercoat the pot in the colour of your choice.
Then, using a paint which is three shades lighter (or darker)
than the undercoat work the paint into a small brush.

Then using paper towels, remove most of the paint from the brush
and lightly brush the suface of the pot and molding with the paint.
Repeat the process until the pot has enough contrast paint
to your liking

WAXED POT

Apply the molding and paint the pot.

Then using a soft cloth work wax or polish onto the pot and
the molding.

Once the pot is covered with wax or polish,
buff it well with a clean, soft cloth to give an
aged shiny look.
