Why test your home?
There’s a preposterously good chance your home is hiding mold and water damage:
- Multiple studies indicate 50% of all homes are concealing water damage.
- Common “cosmetic” issues like paint peeling and cracks in your foundation can be signs of water damage.
- Mold in your home and office is not always visible, and the EPA estimates that 85% of offices have had water damage.
- Mold may produce a musty, earthy, damp odor, which can be a telltale sign of its presence even if it's not immediately visible.
MoldCo has partnered with Envirobiomics to offer the evidence-based “HERTSMI-2” home mold test. “HERTSMI-2” stands for: Health Effects Roster of Type Specific Formers of Mycotoxins and Inflammagens.
Why we like this home mold test:
- Evidence-based*
- Low cost ($130)
- Fast turnaround time (5 business days)
- Easy (includes Swiffer pad to wipe any dusty surfaces)
The science behind it:
- DNA from mold can be found in dust samples collected in the home (in this test, a sterile Swiffer pad does the job).
- A lab analysis of the dust sample, using a mold-specific quantitative polymerase chain reaction (MSQPCR), identifies and quantifies the “Big 5” molds harmful to human health.
- A personalized report is shared with your home’s “health score”.
- The HERTSMI-2 scoring system assigns points based on the quantity of each mold species present in the sample, with higher points indicating a greater potential health risk.
- The data from the report is based on over 1,000 data points from real, moldy homes.
This at-home mold test analyzes the "Big 5" molds, prioritized for their danger to human health and prevalence in water-damaged buildings::
- Aspergillus Penicilloides
- Aspergillus Versicolor
- Chaetomium Globosum
- Stachybotrys Chartarum (also known as black mold)
- Wallemia Sebi
Finding answers can be as simple as wiping your home's surfaces.
